No Christmas cards from Europlaz this year..

This year Europlaz will not be sending Christmas cards, instead we have made a donation on behalf of our customers to the Princess Alexandra Hospital Neonatal care unit appeal.

Europlaz Christmas donation to neonatal unit The Princess Alexandra Hospital, based near to us in Harlow, Essex is looking to raise £100,000 to equip their recently refurbished Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which is a specialist area for sick and premature babies.

In the last year alone, the staff on the NICU unit provided care and treatment to more than 350 babies and their families.

Anjanee Jhurry, Manager of NICU, said: ‘It’s fantastic Europlaz is helping us to raise money this Chirstmas. The money raised will help us to further improve the overall environment for babies, their families and staff on the unit.’

New Website for Europlaz Technologies

The old Europlaz website did us proud – it can’t be denied – it opened loyally and recorded visits and clicks without fail. However, after ten long years of service the time has come for ‘Europlaz.co.uk – mark one’ to retire.

Everyone at Europlaz will miss this old familiar face around the office and we wish it well as it relaxes in cyber space.

Following many strategic and exhaustive meetings we have decided to introduce ‘Europlaz.co.uk mark two’ to the company.New website for europlaz technologies ltd

This new appointment is effective immediately and the whole team would like to offer a warm welcome to the newest member and wish her well – Europlaz.co.uk will be in charge of new online business, web communications and photo and video galleries.

Please feel free to get in contact and let us know how this new team member is performing. Have a look around for yourself and check back here for an detailed look at the new features and web pages introduced.

The easiest way to contact us  is via Twitter @europlaz or via the website.  We are looking forward to your thoughts.

Charity Challenge

Europlaz recently took a trip to the ‘Smoky North’ to visit one of our long standing customers, Mast Group Limited. As well as finding out the latest developments within the group, we found Operations Director, Neil, has once again decided to put himself forward for The Cheshire Challenge – all in the name of charity.

Last year Neil and his team raised almost £4000 for a very worthy cause, The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust so Europlaz is delighted to sponsor Neil, once again, for this daring endeavor.

The Adventure Farm is a haven for terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged children from across the Northwest of England. The aim is to provide holidays for special children and their carers. Based at a 17th century farmhouse outside Manchester, children can run riot with swimming, bowling and day trips to the beach and zoo – at no expense.
Neil and his team ‘Warby’s Wayward Wanderers’ will be starting the 40 mile (or 64K if you think that sounds better?) trek on 28 April 2012. You can sponsor them via their Just Giving page.
Europlaz wish Neil and his team a lot of luck and good weather.
We look forward to hearing how it goes!

Evolution of the injection mould tool manufacturing industry in the UK

A recent article in Plastic and Rubber Weekly, ‘UK Mouldmakers fight back’, addresses the transformation of the injection mould tool manufacturing industry in the UK.  Due to the introduction of Injection Mould tools from overseas suppliers, at very competitive rates mouldmakers have had tricky decisions to make in order to thrive.

According to the Mouldmaking feature in PRW’s 16 March issue there are three different ways of meeting and responding to the challenge faced:

1)      Compete head-on through high quality and rapid turnaround.

2)      Migrate from “make” to “mend” – pulling out of new mould building altogether and moving to modification, repair and refurbishment.

3)      As a client for large projects, convene a consortium of mouldmakers with complementary capabilities on a “horses for courses” basis.

The Europlaz solution

At Europlaz things are no different, gone are the days of a tool room with 15 highly skilled toolmakers frantically trying to meet deadlines of multi-impression tools. Today, an amalgamation of all three of the above options has been implemented and the strategy is proving to be very successful.

We have been dusting off the old stand in preparation for MEDTEC UK this summer. It’s not looking too bad – but we can do better than that!

Medical device manufacturing exhibition stand - set up in cleanroom

The shell of (what will be) cleanroom four offered the perfect space to test out the stand. And here is a sneak peek of how the newest cleanroom is coming along – the work is projected to be finished by the end of the month.

Please let us know if we will be seeing you at Medtec this summer.

New Orchard for Southminster Community

Recently Europlaz was approached by FOSCOS, friends of Southminster community open spaces, with their plan to create a new Orchard in the village. We thought it was a brilliant idea and decided to sponsor an ‘Avenue’ of cherry trees through the middle.

Cherry tree orchard - meet in the middle to create a walk through

One day the orchard may look a little like this

The idea is that as the trees grow they will join over head in the centre and form an arch for people to walk through.

It will be a while before our trees are as impressive as these but as they grow there will be an increasingly beautiful display of fruits and flowers.

Pictures of the actual orchard below. Continue reading
